Power

One of many of my favorite books is called Drawing on the Powers of Heaven by Grant Von Harrison. I have read it several times but every time I do, I learn something new or relearn something I need too.

So are this morning I have only read the Preface and first chapter. The book teaches how to have faith enough to call upon the powers of heaven in all that we do to achieve our righteous desires. It goes on to say that without learning how and doing this we will never live up to our true potential.

It talks about how the power to do so is dependent upon obedient to the laws. I need to be better.

He goes on to say "Once you become proficient at calling down the powers of heaven through faith, you should make every effort to teach others the process.  If you work at it diligently, you will realize that you can be instrumental in teaching many others to be effective in calling down the powers of heaven." 

I like to learn and I like to teach. I want to learn this again better, more, deeper.  I then want to teach it.

Act

Today I learned to act.
During Sacrament Meeting today I had a feeling. I needed to tell a story to a young man.
I acted on it and his parents seemed appreciative.
I will call and see if he will let me tell the story.
I am glad I acted and thankful that I learned to listen.

Persistence

Not even sure I spelled that right. This week was very draining for many reasons. Work required a lot of phone calls that seemed to go no where. The house situation does not seem to be getting better. Thursday night I was sitting with one sale. I had a few appointments set for Friday but was uncertain about how they would go. I knelt at my bed on Thursday night and asked for success the next day. Friday morning came. It was cold, freezing to be exact. I took Scotlyn and Brayden to school and headed to my first appointment. Walked out of it selling 3 ads to one insurance agent. I immediately thanked my Father in Heaven in the car right there in the parking lot. I went to my next appointment at the gym with a Mary Key rep. She bought also. Next I went to a daycare and the bought also. 5 sales in one day. 6 sales that week. Top 3in the company this week. Persistence at work paid off.

Patience or LACK there of

I have never been one to have much patience but lately it has felt worse.
Yesterday, I got so frustrated trying to upload and email some photos of an eagle court of honor that I was just done. I gave up. Tracie fixed it.
I went outside to clean up Christmas decorations and got impatient and pulled a big pull up across the driveway and put 7 or 8 holes in it. What a dummy I am.
Today while trying to keep up with the administrative stuff and tracking of merit badges and scout advancement the Boy Scout website was so not user friendly and slow that I gave up.
I feel like I have so much to do that I don't have time for things to be slow, wait for people, or have things not go smoothly.  Oh, I realize I am not that important.
I need to fix this about me and become much more patient.

Goals

Nothing new but something relearned.
This is my entry for yesterday.
I relearned goal setting is healthy.
I sat down and wrote out my goals for the upcoming year.
Putting them on paper with real numbers, dates, end results brought them to life, made them real.
I am grateful for this lesson I learned again about goal setting.

What companies should value

In my reading today of "The 5 Levels of Leadership" by John Maxwell, I found it very interesting that he states the following:  Most of what an organization possesses goes down in value.  Facilities deteriorate.  Equipment becomes out of date. Supplies get used up.  What asset has the greatest potential for actually going up in value?  People!  But only if they are valued, challenged, and developed by someone capable of investing in them and helping them grow.  Otherwise, they are like money put on deposit without interest.  Their potential is high, but they aren't actually growing.

I just spent the last four days in meetings with people, a company, that are actually doing what John Maxwell talks about and is investing in people, challenging people and helping them grow.  How refreshing it is to know that these people actually care enough about others and want them to succeed.

How do you make an organization better?  Invest in people who work in it.  Companies get better when their people get better.  That's why investing in people always gives a greater return to an organization. 

If you invest in people they will never be the same again.  And neither will you.  It is impossible to help others without helping yourself.

Mr. Maxwell writes a small section on Translating Personal Productivity into Leadership.  If you turn your focus outward from your own production as a leader you will begin helping others to become high producers like yourself.

1 Hour a Day

It has been a while since I last sent anything.  That does not mean that I have not been learning.  I have been very busy but that is not a good excuse.

Today, I learned that if I pick a subject and read about it for 1 hour every day, that in 3 years I will have an equivalent of a college degree in that subject and after 5 years I will be a world renowned expert on that subject.

I am going to learn something new everyday in 2013 and beyond.  I will either read for an hour a day about a subject to become an expert or learn a new skill, technique or at least a new word.

I have also decided to blog my goals. I have not finalized them yet but will soon and create a new blog where not only will I publish my goals but also celebrate my accomplishments when I reach my goals.
